Just wanted to a big thank you for the fantastic lessons and encourage any waverers who are contemplating taking the plunge with a free trial lesson on offer this week. I started this way – it was scary – but it’s made a huge difference and soon becomes not just less scary, but great fun. A great way to learn, so glad I tried!

1-1 classes with Angela are superb. I really look forward to them each week. The mix of conversation skills ( speaking, listening, responding) with reading (reviewing what I have written myself as another learning approach) has raised my confidence so much. I recently upgraded to 1-hr sessions, extremely nervous about whether I could maintain concentration in Italian for this long, but it worked perfectly. The 1-1 focus is better than small group, where others can distract. Angela discusses my own interests with me (literature, art, the environment, politics, current affairs), rather than following any inflexible curricula demanded by text books. I can’t speak more highly of her as a teacher. She’s excellent. Grazie mille!

I have been studying Italian online for a few years, now, whilst also going to language school here in the UK. As I wait impatiently to return to school in Bologna, the private lessons have kept me motivated and engaged. All the teachers I have had have been great – Lucia, Francesca and Michela. Each brings her own style, excellent resources, and challenging conversations and exercises. My language comprehension and speaking skills have greatly improved and I have become more confident about the prospect of making my way in Italy for extended periods of time. And if I get to meet my teachers there, I will forego the cappuccino after a big lunch!

Maurizio is a treasure! A real find. He is an excellent teacher, he has a very gentle approach and is brilliant at making you feel relaxed enough not to worry about speaking. I cant recommend him highly enough.

I cannot recommend highly enough. I really look forward to my weekly half-hour with Barbara Bassi, and feel to have progressed hugely. Daniel is right, to really learn one needs to be speaking and listening. Yes, I make lots of mistakes but isn’t that how we humans learn. Barbara is a delight to be with and infinitely patient, never making me feel foolish. She is encouraging and helpful and understanding. My half-hour is thoroughly enjoyable. If you are hesitating, as I did for long enough, please give it a go – you will not regret it and have lots to gain, not least some fun.

I love my weekly conversations with Serena. As she is an accomplished language teacher, she is able to do a lot more than just have a conversation. She’s very good at discerning what I am interested in, and makes great suggestions about things to read or TV programs (like Kilimangiaro) to watch. We enjoyed finding out more about Il Borgho di Borghi. I’m not just learning language, I’m learning more about Italy and Italian culture. There is genuine sharing communication between us.

I usually have a few language questions for her, and I usually write something that she corrects for me. She works hard and is always on time. She inspires me to work hard too.

I have great respect for her professional knowledge!

You can learn and practice grammar in many ways. There are many resources for listening reading and writing. However the main point of learning a language is conversing. There is no substitute for a proper conversation with a native speaker. Speaking Italian with English classmates for me just doesn’t cut the mustard. My conversations with Michela are easy and natural chats. She is a skilled conversationalist and somehow we dont run dry, even in this Covid year of no activity and repetitive news. New vocabulary evolves naturally as of course I often am lacking a word or two. This is the way we naturally learn a language and is the most neglected. Sometimes on Duolingo I come across the most convoluted and crazy grammatical arguments and it is clear to me that some students are not doing this to learn to speak Italian. Michela never makes me feel embarrassed if I mangle a sentence so feeling nervous is pointless. It can be the least pressured aspect of your learning if you let it. Thank you Michela

Though the prospect of taking one-on-one lessons was very intimidating to me, I decided to jump in and buy a block of 20 lessons right from the start. I believed (for me) that there would be no way to decide how valuable I would ultimately find individual sessions after only a few lessons (I am an avowed introvert and expected it to be awkward and weird at first). Oh, how wrong I was. I liked and clicked with Lucia from the first session and I find my weekly lesson something I really look forward to. I do derail her plans with chatting about random things, but she does not seem to mind. I have not found the courage to re-visit the recordings yet, but that’s my next step. I highly recommend these lessons and advise you to buy a block (so economical this way)!

One to one lessons are brilliant! The first few are terrifying, then it becomes a thoroughly enjoyable journey. Chatting, exploring and learning about life in Italy, maybe a bit of grammar occasionally, just anything you want it to be but confidently knowing that you are guided by a great teacher of Italian. I only wish I’d discovered them sooner. Worth every penny! Thank you Online Italian Club!!!

I think Annegret summed up the online lessons perfectly. After more than 2 years, Alessandra has become a friend and I so eagerly look forward to our weekly sessions. I love to chat and learn new vocabulary as we go along. I’m not a lover of grammar or learning lists of conjugated verbs. and Alessandra knows this. Alessandra is brill. She knows I love chatting and we have a laugh too and I am learning all the time. I have really gained in confidence with her and am now considering a short intensive online course with Madrelingua.
    Grazie mille Alessandra.

Reviewing my PayPal Account, I see that I commenced my current series of lessons in January 2020 – (it must have been a New Year’s Resolution that I had forgotten about) and I shall continue during this current year. I have been learning Italian for ten years now but never got to grips with speaking it as I have always found it difficult and sought refuge in the comfort zone of grammar, reading and writing. In other words, I have always lacked the courage to make that essential stumbling start. However the on-line lessons with Benedetta have been truly excellent (notwithstanding pre-lesson ‘tension’) such that I am thinking about stepping up their frequency to two sessions per week which I hope really will produce the hoped for ‘breakthrough’ of being able to have a general, everyday type conversation in a relaxed manner, without having to stressfully search for the right vocabulary. Also, like an earlier Reviewer, it is lovely to have direct verbal and visual contact with someone in Europe and speak about our different experiences of the COVID 19 pandemic.

I am really enjoying my Italian lessons. It was a coincidence that I signed up at the beginning of the first lockdown and it has, of course, been an excellent occupation for this unusual year.
Having only been in a small class before, it feels like a treat to have my teacher all to myself and she is very generous with her time: not watching the clock.
Speaking as a musician, I am familiar with the idea of endless repetition when practising and I particularly like to try to make the right Italian sounds, so listening to my real, live Italian teacher is the best possible model.
I am always a bit nervous on lesson days but my teacher is very encouraging.
