I have had one lesson with Francesca (Franci). I was very nervous but Franci made me feel very comfortable and the lesson went really well, albeit too quickly! I really enjoyed conversing with Franci who was very encouraging with my attempts to speak Italian! Franci was well prepared and made my lesson ‘facile’. Grazie mille Franci!

I had a wonderful 30 minute lesson in Italian with Monica. Monica was patient and provided guidance during our conversation. As a beginner of the Italian language, she offered encouragement and answered my questions in a way that was easy to understand. Our Zoom connection was strong and time just flew!

I have been having weekly lessons with Giulia for more than 6 months. Our conversations are always lively and enjoyable and cover a range of topics. It is a great help to be able to replay the video and to go over points of grammar and vocabulary.
Giulia is an encouraging and supportive teacher.

I was so lucky to have my first lesson with Marta. Because Marta is a great teacher and fits everything that I had hoped for in a teacher/professional conversation partner. Right from the start she asked questions and kept the conversation going in a relaxed and calm way. Her being calm and relaxed helped me to ease into the conversation. And at the end, I was very astonished how well it went regarding my limited speaking abilities. I found that to be a great way to practice my speaking and booked 10 lessons right away. Now I am in my third lesson and I like the conversations with Marta so much and I learn a lot! I highly recommend it to just try it out!

I was quite apprehensive as whilst I have been to various classes I have never had a one to one lesson before. The tutor Francesco was very easy to understand and immediately put me at ease, and was well prepared for the lesson.
I think this was one of the most useful learning tools I have experienced and would not hesitate in recommending anyone to try it.
Kumari –
I really enjoyed Roberto’s assistance and patience during my free 30 minute conversational lesson. And he sent me some pointers in a message after the lesson also. Highly recommended!
Karen Tapper –
I am so pleased that I tried the offer of a free lesson, so pleased in fact that I signed up for another 10 lessons. I was apprehensive as I find speaking in another language very traumatic as I tend to forget any words I know when I am faced with another person. I need not have worried, Maurizio has been very patient and now after several lessons, I am beginning to relax and enjoy the conversation. I asked to concentrate on conversation so the majority of the lesson is spent in discussion but with gentle reminders on grammar when I have used words incorrectly.
To anyone who is unsure whether to sign up for lessons, take it from me, you will not regret it.

Like many learners of Italian I have spent far too much time on written Italian and grammar. As a result my reading and written Italian is reasonable. Formal class lessons are mostly grammar based, and while very interesting, often teach you to construct sentences that you rarely need in real life conversations. Due to fear of getting things wrong, and also laziness I have relied on email and text messages to communicate with workmen, banks etc and have avoided the dreaded telephone wherever possible.
It all seems a bit mad when my objective is to communicate in real conversations.
This is where the skype lessons really come into their own. Looking at the other reviews it is clear we all have slightly different needs, and that all the teachers are skilled in providing the right sort of teaching.
I am less nervous about our lessons now, but still feel very self conscious. In the past with another teacher I have had MP3 recordings which work for some people but I find mortifying as I sound so bad.
Michela understood from the outset that I wanted normal conversations and she has great skills in stimulating the flow.
This Covid year has been so difficult, and in the absence of being able to talk to friends in Italy she has been an absolute lifesaver. My life has very little to talk about but Michela somehow pulls it out of the bag to produce interesting and often funny chat. I just feel that it is normal, not so much a lesson but a slice of life. Skype occasionally has a few blips but I no longer feel stressed when this happens. I know that if I decided to focus more on grammar that Michela would teach me well with all the patience she shows to this grandma.
We can chat about most things, but try to push Covid from dominating, and definitely dont want to do Brexit.
Thank you Michela for all your patience and good humour

My class was disappointing through no fault of the tutor who was well prepared, kind and friendly.
My disappointment was my inability to speak. It was like there was no connection between my brain and my mouth. Even though I have been studying, listening and reading Italian for more than a year when it came to simple introductions I became tongue tied, so much so that Alberto began at the beginning teaching me masculine and feminine nouns. I found it all very upsetting and didn’t feel encouraged to repeat the experience.

If you’ve never spoken Italian before, Margie, it seems unsurprising that you would have difficulty the first time, however much you’ve studied, however much you’ve practiced listening. Speaking is a skill in itself and requires a sort of ‘muscle memory’, not just a theoretical knowledge.
I’ve had similar experiences myself in first lessons with a new language, or one I haven’t spoken for decades. It can be upsetting, especially if the teacher (perhaps reasonably) assumes that because you can’t get a single coherent word out, you must be a beginner.
After a half-dozen sessions, though, things always begin to loosen up, and gradually I become able to speak at a level more appropriate to my ‘real’ knowledge of the language. Of course, that presupposes a willingness to ‘repeat the experience’.

Alberto Bibbliani was incredibly patient with my low-intermediate level of Italian, and he later sent me a transcript of our conversation, which will help me review my errors at leisure. He deserves every one of his five stars. I look forward to more conversations and some grammar study with this outstanding teacher.
Catherine Stuart –
My Skype lesson was with Giulia Bulzoni. Giulia was fantastic – I am a beginner but with her help we managed to converse in Italian for the entire lesson! Giulia is patient, friendly and helpful. She provided me with a text of our conversation which I found very useful, so I could concentrate on listening and speaking rather than trying to write notes at the same time. Giulia helped me a lot with my pronunciation too. I found it very beneficial having a one on one lesson and will certainly consider taking more classes with Giulia in the future. Grazie mille!

I really would highly recommend you try these lessons. I have been having weekly Skype lessons with Lucia since July 2019. It s a great opportunity to practice listening and speaking Italian. It is very rare that we use English during the lesson. We spend the first 10 minutes or so chatting about the weekend/ daily activities and then move to work through a Nuovo Espresso book. I really like that there is a good combination of learning and studying with more emphasis on the learning. There are audio and video files to listen to and watch which are at anormal talking speed i.e. not slowed down. The speed is realistic and helps atune your ears to the language. There is homework too so you are able to check your learning .

Michela is a talented teacher who responds to my needs and encourages me to speak as well as setting some challenging homework. I would recommend Online Italian to anyone – and everyone!
Wendy Hartnell –
I decided to try this because of the free introductory offer. I’m so pleased I did. I had a wonderful half hour talking to Mara who was patient and charming and gently corrected my many mistakes. I was so pleased I’ve signed up for a package of ten lessons.
Judy Skelton –
Many many thanks to onlineitalianclub for their offer of a free Skype lesson. It wasn’t something that I had seriously considered and didn’t really know what to expect, but Daniel’s conversational encouragement in the newsletters did the trick. I wasn’t disappointed!
I found it incredibly interesting, useful and fun. I was impressed at every level. The teacher (Alessandra) was friendly, positive and helpful. The ability to record and play back the lesson was a bonus I hadn’t expected and will encourage me to try and be more relaxed next time! I had a useful list of things to work on, and suggestions for the future, including possible authors. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and have already recommended it to other learners of Italian.

GIOVANNA has been my tutor for over a year now and I simply love her! She is thorough, organized and responsive to my needs.
Ruth Stephens –
I had a series of lessons with Lucia which were extremely helpful. Lucia is a very good teacher; she sends you some preparatory work which forms the basis of the lesson. She corrects mistakes as you go along and afterwards sends a transmission of the lesson together with exercises based on the errors made during the lesson. A very good way of making sure you have understood. Lucia is very patient and encouraging. I highly recommend her.

I have had two lessons with Stefania and I like using Skype more and more. It was a little bit hard to start with, but the second time went a lot smoother and now I have booked a third time. It could not be more convenient; to sit at home and pick a time that suits you to have a lesson! I have also had various exercises and homework sent to me by mail, which I have appreciated a lot. I will certainly carry on learning Italian this way. / Eva

I have had two Skype lessons, my tutor is Lucia.
As my biggest problem is conversational Italian, I felt that the Skype format was the next best thing to moving to Bologna,
This has turned out to be the case.
Lucia is a good teacher, very knowledgeable, patient but she keeps one at it, this is as it should be.
I think its success can be measured by the number of ‘ehms’ in my side of the conversation, definitely less second time round.
The down side, no fault of the club, the Skype connection failed once or twice.
I will certainly be having more lessons
